I am an artist living in Wexford, Ireland. I get excited when I see a chink of light shining through the darkness of the trees or the sparkles of sunlight dancing on the surface of a stream. The feel of the sun on my face - the mystery of a foggy morning - the threatening feeling of a dark, stormy sky. My painting is trying to explore and capture this natural seesaw between light and dark. I’m on a quest to master the light, colour, and atmosphere of the humbling forces of nature. A lifelong journey. I paint mostly with soft pastels-little sticks of pure pigment. They allow me the freedom to draw and paint at the same time. I love their intense colours and the vibrant, luscious marks I can make with them. I am a member of The Pastel Society of Ireland and the Pastel Guild of Europe. I have studied with well-known American Master pastelists Casey Klahn, Eve Miller, and Loriann Signori. Painting for me is like a dance between play and conscious decision – between instinctive moves and learned steps. Getting the two rhythms to work together is the secret to a successful painting.
